Did you know that there’s a US Open for Paragliding? There is, and it’s an incredible week-long event. The Chelan US Open of Paragliding takes place in Chelan every year, and it is currently going on!
When is the Chelan US Open of Paragliding?
This year, the Open began on July 7th and goes until July 13th. The closing ceremonies take place on Saturday, July 13th after the final competition. This is one of the largest paragliding competitions.
Who participates in the Chelan US Open of Paragliding?
Competitors come from all over the world to take part in the events throughout the week. There are pilots, both male and female, from 25 different countries participating in the events. Some of the countries include: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, Philippines, Peru, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey. These are some of the best paragliding pilots in the world, and they’re competing for the title of the best.

Where do the pilots take off?
There are four places for the paragliding competitors to take off on the Butte. They can take off from the Ants, Between the Rocks, Green Mountain, and Lakeside points. However, the availability of these points is dependent on the wind.
How can I see the events?
Just look up! Since the events mostly take place in the skies, keep your eyes out for paragliders while you’re in Chelan this week!
