Looking for a unique and thrilling vacation experience? You won’t find any lake activity more heart-pumping than flyboarding. The Flyboard® is a watersports apparatus which allows propulsion underwater and in the air. Imagine strapping on a jet pack and being launched high into the air or getting propelled through the water like a dolphin. The Flyboard® could be compared to a power wakeboard. The Developer, Franky Zapata said, “The Flyboard® encompasses all my passions: the jetski, ski, snowboard and acrobatic dives.”
Not only is flyboarding exciting, it’s also safe and very easy to learn. Most people can learn to flyboard in 5 to 20 minutes. Just like riding a bike or waterskiing, flyboarding is an intuitive activity. It just requires a little balance! Lake Chelan is a great place to try flyboarding for yourself. AV Water Sports is the place to contact with any questions or to make a reservation. You can also find more information, including pricing, on the AV Water Sports website.
Kayaking, Canoeing, and Paddleboarding
Want to try an adventurous activity that is more mellow and relaxing than flyboarding? Kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding are great options! Whether you’re 8 or 68, you can have fun navigating the waters of Lake Chelan in a kayak or a canoe, and many teenagers and adults alike enjoy the challenge of paddleboarding. Easy accessibility is another reason these activities are popular. Rent your equipment (or bring your own), head to the lake, and off you go on your adventure. When you stay at Lakeside Lodge and Suites, you’ll be only 100 yards from the shore where you can push off. Jet Skiing is an extremely popular lake activity in the summer months. Just hop on your personal watercraft and zoom across the water. Keep in mind, you must be 18 years or older to rent a jet ski and at least 16 years old to operate one by yourself. You can operate a jet ski at 14 years old, but your passenger must be 18 or older. We want everyone on Lake Chelan to have fun, but also stay safe. If you don’t have your own jet ski, there are many rental options around the lake. Most companies charge hourly, but also have half-day and full-day options. When riding a jet ski, remember to wear your lifejacket! Check out AV Water Sports or Shoreline of Chelan for all your rental needs!
You may not be able to catch a killer wave on Lake Chelan, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go surfing. Each year, many windsurfers hit the water, which is usually right around 80°F. Windsurfing is a combination of surfing and sailing, and it does require quite a bit of physical strength. More experienced windsurfers can pull off some jumps and tricks, but it also can be a more laid-back activity. If interested, you can rent a windsurfer at Lake Rider Sports. Just call 509-885-4767 for more information and pricing.
Skiing and Wakeboarding
Chances are if you’ve ever been to the lake or own a boat, you’ve probably tried water skiing or wakeboarding. The warm water and large area make Lake Chelan ideal for skiing and wakeboarding. Never heard of wakeboarding? This thrilling water sport is a combination of waterskiing, snowboarding, and surfing. With enough practice, wakeboarders can master incredible tricks. If you’re a first-timer, make sure you have all the proper information and equipment needed for wakeboarding. Not all boats are compatible for this sport, however boats can be rented from a number of different companies in the area.
Tubing is probably the most popular of all water sports. Kids love it, adults love it, and if you don’t love it, then you’ve probably never tried it! Tubing is easy and inexpensive, you just need a boat, some rope, and a tube. Tubes come in all shapes in sizes from one-person doughnuts to six-person aqua gliders. As with any other water sport equipment, if you don’t have it you can rent it somewhere in Lake Chelan. Tube rentals are often the most affordable and your kids will make a lifetime of memories! Just make sure everyone wears their lifejacket!
Kids and adults alike love to swim in Lake Chelan’s clear blue waters. There is a swimming beach at Lakeside Park, which is adjacent to the hotel. Just a hop, skip, and a jump from your room! But if you’d prefer to skip the sand, you can always enjoy swimming in our sparkling outdoor pool. Kids will have a blast while mom and dad relax and enjoy the view.
