Lake Chelan. This 50 mile lake is home to large amounts of fish and is also a gateway to the North Cascades National Park. But, how much do you actually know about the area surrounding Lake Chelan? Let’s explore the different areas around Lake Chelan and see some of the great things they offer.
Communities
There are a few communities around the lake that help bring the atmosphere to the Lake Chelan image. Chelan, Stehekin, and Manson each have their own flair and influence from the lake. Chelan is home to Historic Downtown Chelan and is reminiscent of small town America. Quaint shops, galleries and restaurants are some of the top attractions. Stehekin is a small community with around 100 full time residents. Unless you are ready for a 50 mile hike, we recommend visiting by taking a boat or seaplane! Residents also have a unique way of getting groceries. They send a list and a blank check to Chelan’s grocery store and then get them delivered back up by boat! Lastly, Manson is home to scenic views and special family businesses, vineyards, and wineries. The Lake Chelan American Viticultural Area produces a lot of wine for Washington and beyond. We love our wine!
Activities
Although there aren’t a lot of large communities around Lake Chelan, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to do! Swimming, boating, and water skiing are all popular activities in this about 1,500 foot deep lake. This makes Lake Chelan the 3rd deepest lake in the United States. And, there are over 850,000 fish released into the lake each year, if that is more your speed. Hiking, golfing, and biking tours, like Chelan Electric Bikes are some fun land activities as well. And of course, the Lake Chelan Valley area is home to over 25 different wineries. These wineries host many events throughout the year, along with tastings and an exclusive dining experience.
